Request a Certificate of Insurance
The certificate your customer is waiting on.
A certificate of insurance (COI) is a one-page summary of your business coverage that a general contractor, landlord, or customer asks for before work starts. Tell us who needs it and what they are asking for, attach their request if you have it, and a service representative at our Owatonna office issues it and sends it to the holder you name. Requests are handled in the order received during business hours.
Who needs it, and what do they want on it?
The more of their request you paste or attach, the fewer questions we have to call you with.
Certificates, answered plainly.
What is a certificate of insurance?
A certificate of insurance is proof that a policy exists. It lists the insured business, the carrier, the policy numbers, the coverage types and limits, and the policy dates. It is informational — it does not create or change coverage.
Why does my customer want to be an additional insured?
Being named an additional insured gives the holder certain rights under your liability policy if a claim arises from your work. It is added by endorsement, which is why we need to see the request rather than just add a line to the certificate.
Can I get a certificate for a contract that requires higher limits than I carry?
A certificate has to reflect what the policy actually says. If the contract calls for limits or endorsements your policy does not have, a licensed agent will review the options with you before anything is issued.
How many certificates can I request?
As many as your work requires. Each request is logged, and we keep the holder details on file so renewals go faster.
I am not a client yet. Can you still help?
Yes. Start with a business quote and tell us the contract is waiting. We quote Farmers first and 20+ additional carriers for the risks a single-company agency cannot place.
